Beginner to UTR Players Welcome | Book My Kid’s Free Trial Now
Got a kid who’s never played tennis before but would like to give it a try?
Whether it’s for your son or daughter, ages 4–17, you want a place that’s safe, structured, and welcoming — not overwhelming…
Yet, maybe you’re wondering:
Will they feel confident?
Will they actually improve?
Is this the right place to start?
Thus, we recommend you find a local community that supports you and your kids’ tennis journey every step of the way.
At Heffron Park Tennis Centre, we offer the National Tennis Australia-accredited kids tennis program, The Hot Shots, in Matraville and its surrounding suburbs.
What is the Kids’ Tennis Hot Shots Program?
The Hot Shots program is designed for complete beginners who’ve never played before, or players with a UTR (Universal Tennis Rating) level of 3.00–4.00.
Here, every child has a place.
The solution is a safe, structured, colour-coded development pathway — based on age and ability — that allows kids to build skills step-by-step without overwhelm.
Because tennis works best when it grows with your child.

Each stage uses the right court size, ball type, and skill focus — so children develop confidence, coordination, and match readiness naturally.
When the pathway is clear, improvement becomes predictable.
Heffron Park Tennis Centre is run by the SSMG (Sydney Sports Management Group), with over 40 years of experience in sports and recreation management.
We take our responsibility for the safety, positive experience, and success of every player seriously.
That’s why we’ve built an environment where kids feel supported as they master their game, parents feel confident, and progress is measurable.
What can I expect from the Hot Shots Program?

When your child joins the Hot Shots Program, they’ll receive:
- Personalised and group coaching & mentorship for both technical and mindset skills

Kids Tennis Pathway | Hot Shots Tournament to School Holiday Camps

The Hot Shots Program is one of the most effective training grounds for your future tennis star.
Once kids progress to their levels, from Kinder Tennis to Launch Pad, or Red Ball to Orange Ball, they’ll be invited to our seasonal Hot Shots Tournament and School Holiday Tennis Camps.
The Hot Shots Tournament is a one-day event, held usually on Sundays every 1-2 months, to select SSMG site- managed sports facilities like the Heffron Park Tennis Centre.
This is a great opportunity for kids to play competitively with their peers in our club.
While our School Holiday Tennis Camp run weekly, you have the option to choose the full week, full day, or half.
Holiday Camps help fast-track your kids’ technical and mindset skills.
This program is designed for children aged 4-14 years old of all levels of ability.
It is an excellent way for children to experience the game of tennis from a grassroots level.

FAQ | About the Hot Shots Program
1️⃣ My child already has a UTR or competition experience. Can they join squad training?
Absolutely.
If your child already has a UTR rating (for example, 3.00–4.00) or tournament experience, we’ll assess them during their free trial and place them into the appropriate squad level.
Our structured pathway allows competitive players to continue progressing through squad training, tournament preparation, and development programs — without being held back or overwhelmed.
We match by ability, not just age.
2️⃣ My child is currently Green Ball (or Red/Orange). Is there a group for their level?
Yes.
Our Hot Shots Program follows the nationally accredited colour progression:
Red Ball
Orange Ball
Green Ball
Yellow Ball
Each stage is designed around age, skill level, and court size to maximise development and confidence.
If your child has been playing for a few years, we’ll assess them and place them into the correct level so they continue improving step-by-step.
3️⃣ How do I know which group is right for my child?
The easiest way is to book a FREE trial session.

• Answer any questions you have
